Things to think about when you’re climbing the property ladder
It is widely agreed that moving house is one of the most stressful things you can do in life but as with most things, there are ways to minimise the anxiety associated with buying a house and climbing the property ladder. The first thing to do is make sure that you’re prepared, after all, in the words of Sir Francis Bacon, knowledge is power and you’ll need this power to find a house, negotiate the purchase (and possibly sale of your current property) and secure a mortgage.
Keep in mind that you can’t return a house within 30 days if you decide you don’t like it, you find a fault or you just happen to have found a better one in that time and to this end, a house is a real commitment and one that you should be fully prepared for before the search begins.
Once you’ve decided that you are definitely ready for it, looking for the perfect property is not actually the place to start for most people. This is the exciting part of course but if you do your research and your groundwork first, you’ll probably be less likely to fall into the trap of falling head over heels in love with a house that you simply can’t afford or that doesn’t offer you what you need in terms of location, number of rooms, outside space and so on. Actually the best place to start is with your bank statements and wage slips and once you’ve familiarised yourself with exactly what goes into your account each month and what comes out of it, you’ll be in a great position to work out what’s left over.
The next thing to do is clearly set out what you’re looking for; start with suitable areas, proximity to schools if you have or are planning to have children, number of rooms you need and so on and once you’ve got a clear idea of what your house looks like, do a bit of market research. This is just a case of seeing what houses in your chosen locations, with your chosen number of rooms, are going for on average and it should give you a good idea of how realistic your dreams are when it comes to buying your first or your next house.
Don’t be disheartened if what you initially wanted seems out of reach because the thing to do is to find a company which offers the best mortgage deals for you, whether this is a whole of market mortgage broker, one which offers remortgaging services or one that offers it all and combines it with excellent levels of customer service. It is really important to find a mortgage broker who you get on with on a professional level because you will probably spend quite a bit of time with them in the early stages discussing your mortgage or remortgage options. The sensible way to start climbing the property ladder is to seek professional advice from day one and that way you should feel like you’re in control of the situation and your finances.
If you’re looking to discuss your mortgage with a professional in the North West, look for the company which has the best reputation, offers great remortgaging Manchester services and the best mortgage deals for you.
