The Arty Audi A1
There’s nothing like a bit of modern art to attract attention to a new model launch. Now – this isn’t an ordinary Audi A1 – it’s the A1 that’s worth £350,000 – yep £350,000…I didn’t put the comma in the wrong place.
This Audi A1 is the masterpiece of Damien Hirst – the wealthiest living artist on the planet!
Damien has been working on this project for the past 6 months – in the build up to its UK launch. Audi, Sir Elton John and Damien Hirst were all involved in this project – the link being Sir Elton’s annual White Tie and Tiara Ball.
Once Damien had completed his work the A1 was to be auctioned at the charity ball with the goal of raising money for Elton John’s AIDS Foundation.
The painting itself was quite an arduous process as parts of the Audi had to be taken apart so that they could be laid flat – so Audi had to step in to help out.
The spoiler features Hirst’s signature – a nice touch for the new owner of the A1. At the auction the car was eventually bought by an anonymous bidder for an amazing £350,000…
Now – I doubt very much that you’ll ever see this car being driven through the streets, I’m quite sure that it will be tucked up in the proud owner’s garage for many years to come.
This story just shows how certain events, collaborations and gimics can help attract extra attention to the launch of a new car. Take the Range Rover Evoque for example – they bought in Posh Spice for this one – and just look at the level of publicity that created!
